Drastic Shedding

My hair has been shedding drastically for the past 6 years. Luckily I started off with very thick hair but now it is becoming very noticeable. I am almost positive that my hair is overprocessed however I do not want to stop getting my relaxer. I am starting to consider a more mild form of relaxer. Are child strength relaxers or texturizers easier on hair than the regular adult relaxers? I would also like to find a directory of dermatologists who specialize in african american hair in my area.
