Hair Loss with Soreness NEW
by: Seymour M. Weaver, III, M.D.

There are two concerns to sort out related to the difficulty you are experiencing with your scalp.

First of all, the bald spot is suggestive of alopecia areata, but most of the time when this condition appears, there are no symptoms. But, some individuals do get numbness, tingling, irritation or itching in the area the hair loss develops.

Since the soreness you describe is fairly severe, it would be best to see a dermatologist and have a thorough and complete evaluation. Sometimes soreness is a sign of bacterial infection in addition to other possibilities.
